Standing Time. From Athens, a somewhat unusual release for us: an intriguing collection of 10 very measured and nuanced drone-based pieces – for extended guitar, some percussion and, unusually, Iranian ney, Chinese sho (played by Ko Ishikawa, one of the leading players of the instrument) no-input mixer and, occasionally, field recordings. It has depth and something ancient buried in the modern. Very clear-headed pieces that know what they’re there for. A quiet pearl.
